pineapple-banana green smoothie

Summer’s here. So if you haven’t already busted out your blender, what are you waiting for? I enjoy smoothies all year long, but they are particularly refreshing on a hot day. This recipe has a tropical feel; and with just a few ingredients you can whip it up in no time – without breaking a sweat.

Pineapple is loaded with anti-oxidants. The megadose of Vitamin C and B Vitamins will boost your immunity and give you a summertime glow. Bromelain is a digestive enzyme found in pineapples (and papayas!) that acts as an anti-inflammatory and will keep your stomach flat and bloat-free all through beach season.

The addition of spinach makes this smoothie alkaline, energizing, and nutrient-dense – without a vegetable taste. I served this smoothie at the ‘Get Your Greens’ cooking class to a group of 10-15 year old girls. I joked that it was my toughest crowd ever – but they went back for second helpings of this fruity treat.

Get creative and toss in a few fresh mint leaves or basil. Or add in hemp protein , flax and/or maca for an extra boost.

Looks great. I’ll definitely have to try it! (never thought about mixing spinach leaves with fruit)
